Scholarships for young, emerging Yorkshire athletes going to, training, and playing in Lahore, including access to first-class Qalandars facilities, and opportunities for young people from Pakistan to come to Yorkshire.
The Yorkshire County Cricket Club (YCCC) on Wednesday announced that it has entered into a partnership with the Pakistan Super League (PSL) team, Lahore Qalandars.
According to a statement issued by the Lahore franchise, the partnership will include a player exchange program so that international players can learn from each other, starting with Haris Rauf joining Yorkshire as an overseas player.
"In addition, scholarships will be offered to young, emerging Yorkshire athletes who travel, train, and play in Lahore, including access to Qalandars' first-class facilities, as well as opportunities for Pakistani youth to come to Yorkshire," the statement read.
Under a partnership, a friendly match between the two teams will be played on January 16, 2022, in Lahore at the world-famous Gaddafi stadium.
Lahore Qalandar believes the merger of the two clubs is aimed at empowering learning, development, and support at all levels, and a commitment to creating more accessible cricket systems for emerging players from all over Yorkshire.
"The Qalandars have become a solid example when it comes to making successful exchange programs, with successful partnerships with several Australian Big Bash League teams, allowing more players to showcase their international backgrounds," the statement read.
The first repetition of this exchange program will be the joining of Haris Rauf of Qalandars to join Yorkshire County Cricket Club as its overseas specialists for the 2022 season.
Another important aspect of this partnership is the opportunity to learn from the Lahore Qalandars Athletics Development Program (PDP).
The partnership between the YCCC and Lahore Qalandars will be launched in a friendly match between the two teams on January 16, 2022, in Lahore, following last year's Lahore Qalandars match against Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).
However, it is important to note here that the friendly match will be subject to independent risk assessment, which includes consideration of changes in COVID-19 rules, regulations and guidelines.
Speaking at the event, Yorkshire County Cricket Club Chairman Professor Lord Patel said: “Lahore Qalandars' work inside and outside the stadium is commendable and can be a testament to clubs around the world - including ours - for a better perspective. , encourage and support talent at all levels in the game of cricket. ”
“I am very happy to welcome Haris Rauf who has a unique talent in our team. I am also excited to learn from the Players Development Program, ”he added.
Lahore Qalandars Director of Cricket Aqib Javed said: “The way we work and continue to work with clubs around the world when it comes to player exchanges should be an example that many clubs are looking to follow.
"It allows for an increase in diversity, sharing of skills and expertise and all of this leads to beautiful cultures where beauty flourishes," he added.
